Aruba Hospitality Workers Relief Fund
The Aruba Food & Wine Foundation is seeking your help in building an emergency fund. The aim of this fund is to provide emergency economic relief to workers of the hospitality industry of Aruba who are facing economic hardship due to COVID-19. Our fundraising team is made up of hospitality workers, local entrepreneurs and small business owners who have all been affected by the crisis. Any donation, no matter the amount will help make an impact on the lives of the people you love working in the hospitality industry of Aruba.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Aruba has instituted a lockdown for all incoming international passengers (non-residents), which has cut off the income for the majority of hospitality workers on the island. Since March 17th most Restaurants and Bars have shut down and they do not have the means to continue paying their employees during this time. Though the government's decision to restrict incoming travel and enact a mandatory curfew is a wise decision for public health, this is having catastrophic effects on the financial situation of our community. 87% of our economy depends on tourism.
In Aruba most of the amazing and caring hospitality workers who strive for excellence every day and do their best to offer guests genuine hospitality are now some of the hardest hit by this crisis. We know that in the coming weeks many will be presented with huge financial challenges and if you are able to donate, then together we can be better prepared to help those in need.
The government has set up a temporary relief fund for those who have lost income and that meet a list of criteria, to help cover utilities and grocery bills. Although the government is making efforts, we know that this will not be enough.
